Travis Kelce knows all the tricks.
Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has made a bold statement regarding the prevalence of marijuana use among players in the NFL.
While the league has been strict with punishments for gambling offenses, its stance on cannabis has become more relaxed in recent years, and Kelce believes that its use is more widespread than commonly thought.
Kelce, who was suspended for one year in college for smoking marijuana, recently acknowledged to Vanity Fair that between 50-80 percent of players in the league use marijuana in some form, and they are able to avoid detection by abstaining from use between mid-July and the end of the season.
He explained that as long as players stop before mid-July and continue their intense workouts in the heat, they can still pass drug tests.
“If you just stop (using) in the middle of July, you’re fine,” he said. “A lot of guys stop a week before, and they still pass (drug tests) because everybody’s working out in the heat and sweating their tail off. Nobody’s really getting hit for it anymore.”

However, it is important to note that while the NFL’s approach towards marijuana has softened, players can still face punishment if they test positive. The league now conducts only one cannabis test per year during a two-week window at the start of training camp, and players who pass this test are in the clear.
It is unfortunate that players from the past had their careers shortened due to the league’s stricter stance on marijuana compared to the more lenient approach adopted in recent seasons.
