Some fans are buzzing with speculation that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s latest venture might be a tribute to his girlfriend, Taylor Swift—and it’s easy to see why.
Kelce recently invested in a racehorse named “Swift Delivery,” sparking rumors that the name was a nod to the pop superstar. Team Valor International, along with Gary Barber, owns the horse, and they announced Kelce’s purchase in a press release earlier this week.
The All-Pro tight end teamed up with the Zoldan family, owners of Phantom Fireworks, to make the investment. Kelce had been spotted with the family at the Kentucky Derby earlier this year, which likely fueled his interest in the world of horse racing.
Bruce Irwin, CEO of Team Valor, expressed his excitement about Kelce joining the ownership team. “It’s very exciting,” Irwin told the Associated Press. “I met Travis at the Kentucky Derby, and we hit it off. We talked about horses and racing, and when this horse became available—it was already owned by one of my partners—the name just seemed like a perfect fit. It was a no-brainer.”
Despite the social media buzz suggesting that the horse was named in honor of Swift, Irwin clarified that the name “Swift Delivery” was purely coincidental and not intentionally linked to Kelce’s relationship with the singer, which has been in the spotlight over the past year.
“Swift Delivery” is a promising 3-year-old gelding that has shown impressive form, winning its last two races at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. With jockey Patrick Husbands aboard, the horse is scheduled to compete again on Saturday in a 1-mile race at the same track.
While the connection between the horse’s name and Swift might be purely coincidental, it has certainly added an extra layer of intrigue to Kelce’s latest off-the-field endeavor.
Fans will be watching closely to see how “Swift Delivery” performs, and whether the horse can live up to its star-studded name.
