Travis Kelce was surprised by the reception he received from Dallas Mavericks fans during an NBA playoff game this week, as the crowd booed him when he appeared on the jumbotron.
The Kansas City Chiefs star was attending the Western Conference Finals Game 3 alongside teammates Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, Patrick Mahomes, and Mahomes’ wife Brittany, as the Mavericks took a decisive 3-0 lead in the series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Despite the Mavericks’ strong performance, the atmosphere turned chilly for Kelce when his image was broadcast in the arena, contrasting sharply with the warm welcome Dallas native Mahomes received. During the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast with brother Jason, Kelce discussed the incident.
“I got booed twice, it’s… whatever. I understand, I’m not from Dallas, I’m just an innocent bystander,” Kelce explained. “Maybe they just don’t like the Chiefs.”
Jason questioned whether the boos might have been aimed at both Kelce and Mahomes, but Travis clarified, “They showed me, and I got caught off-guard while trying to take a selfie. Then Pat taps me, and suddenly I realize I’m on the jumbotron, hearing all the boos. Then they showed Pat, and everyone cheered.”
The group witnessed a thrilling game where the Mavericks clinched a 116-107 victory to extend their series lead. Mahomes later tweeted his excitement about the game’s atmosphere and supported the Mavericks.
Despite the initial 3-0 series deficit, Minnesota rallied to win 105-100 in the following game, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Earlier in the week, Kelce also attended an NHL game at the same venue, watching the Dallas Stars in their Western Conference Finals matchup against Edmonton. This prompted a playful jab from Mahomes, who teased, “Get out of my arena,” highlighting their friendly rivalry and Kelce’s enjoyment of the sports action in Dallas.
