Travis Kelce’s relationship with girlfriend Taylor Swift and her massive fanbase remains in the spotlight, even during his rigorous NFL schedule.
On Friday, July 26, during the Kansas City Chiefs training camp, Kelce was caught on social media tossing one of his gloves into a crowd of fans. In a delightful twist of fate, a young girl wearing a Swift-inspired top ended up catching it.
Kelce later addressed the moment in a press conference on Saturday, July 17. “I wish it was as true as the video made it seem,” he said. “I kinda just threw it in the stands, but sometimes fate, somebody just ends up landing a glove that they didn’t know they were gonna get.”
Kelce and Swift, also 34, have been dating since the summer of 2023. They spent much of Kelce’s offseason together as Swift embarked on her Eras Tour across Europe. However, with Kelce needing to report to training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, earlier this month, the couple has since been managing a long-distance relationship.
Heading into his 12th NFL season, Kelce refers to training camp as his “sanctuary.” “I enjoy it, man, there’s something about this place that gets you ready every single year,” he shared on Saturday. “Not gonna lie, [I] got pretty excited as the time started counting down to get out here and get the ball rolling.”
Kelce emphasized the importance of training camp in honing his athletic skills and building team cohesion. “It’s where it all starts,” he explained. “You wanna get that foundation set in the offseason of that leadership and that mentality and things like that. But, at the end of the day, this is where you really find out where the team is made of, how you sharpen the iron, how you guys practice, your practice habits, attention to detail and nobody does it better than Coach [Andy] Reid.”
Focusing on his personal goals, Kelce aims to continue improving his performance on the field. With the official NFL season on the horizon, he and the Chiefs are gearing up for a potential third consecutive Super Bowl win. “I’m just happy that I’m in the NFL and I get to play. Much love,” Kelce expressed.
Swift has been a steadfast supporter of Kelce, attending 13 of his games last season. In her 2023 Person of the Year profile with TIME, Swift elaborated on their public relationship. “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she said. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
It’s likely that Swift will be able to attend the Chiefs’ home opener, as it conveniently falls between her Eras concert stops, allowing her to continue supporting Kelce as he chases another Super Bowl victory.
