An intriguing new analysis has uncovered the NFL’s top snack choice: Uncrustables, the classic pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich, with players consuming at least 80,000 of them each season. The bite-sized sandwiches, popular among kids and now among football pros, have become a staple in NFL locker rooms, fueling players during practice sessions and halftime breaks alike.
Originally created in the 1990s by former college receiver Len Kretchman and his wife, Emily, Uncrustables are unique for their crust-free, sealed-round shape and simple flavors.
NFL stars like Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce have expressed an affinity for the snack, with Kelce famously claiming he consumes “more Uncrustables than anything else in the world.”
According to The Athletic’s analysis, NFL teams collectively devour an impressive 4,300 Uncrustables each week. The Denver Broncos top the list, with players reportedly consuming around 700 Uncrustables weekly—more than double the amount eaten by the Seattle Seahawks, who follow with about 320 per week.
Meanwhile, teams like the New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals are on the lower end, with players consuming just 50 Uncrustables weekly.
Some NFL teams opt to make their own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but for many, the convenience and nostalgia of Uncrustables has proven too good to pass up. The NFL has traditionally mandated that home teams provide 36 sliced oranges for their visiting opponents, but with the rise in popularity of Uncrustables, many players now prefer the pocket-sized sandwiches during halftime.

NFL stars are known for their unique routines with the snack as well. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle reportedly enjoys two Uncrustables on each flight to away games and doubles that on the return flight.
His teammate, quarterback Brock Purdy, famously grabbed one in the locker room before Super Bowl LVIII, though his efforts weren’t enough to secure victory over Kelce’s Chiefs.
As Kelce shared with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, Uncrustables have earned their place as a fan favorite snack among NFL players, providing a simple yet satisfying fuel to keep them going through grueling practices and games.
