After five impactful years with the Cleveland Browns, Callie Brownson is embarking on an exciting new chapter in her career. Brownson, a trailblazer in the world of football coaching, has accepted a position with USA Football as its Senior Director of High Performance and National Team Operations. The sport’s national governing body announced the move on Friday, marking a significant step in Brownson’s already storied career.
The 35-year-old is no stranger to international competition; she earned gold medals as a player for the United States Women’s National Team in the 2013 and 2017 American Football World Championships.
In her new role, Brownson will oversee the development and preparation of U.S. national teams in both flag and tackle football. Her efforts will be focused on maintaining the teams’ dominance on the global stage as they compete in high-profile international tournaments, including the 2028 Olympics, where flag football will make its Olympic debut.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to join USA Football and help the U.S. national teams continue their international success in flag and tackle football through the 2028 Olympics and beyond,” Brownson said in a statement. “This is a historic time for football’s global growth with the Olympics on the horizon. I’m thrilled to be part of what USA Football is building as we look to uphold our standard against improving competition across the world.”

Brownson leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking achievements with the Cleveland Browns. She joined the team in 2020 as Chief of Staff, later serving as Chief of Staff and Assistant Wide Receivers Coach in 2022, and as Assistant Wide Receivers Coach in 2023. Her tenure was marked by a historic milestone in 2020, when she became the first woman to serve as an NFL position coach during a regular-season game.
Her coaching career prior to Cleveland was equally distinguished. Brownson held positions with the New York Jets, Dartmouth College, and the Buffalo Bills, steadily climbing the ranks in a sport traditionally dominated by men. At every stop, she broke barriers and inspired countless others to envision a more inclusive future for football.
Brownson’s transition to USA Football comes at a pivotal time for the organization, as the sport continues to expand on the global stage. Her experience as both a player and a coach uniquely positions her to guide the next generation of U.S. athletes, ensuring they remain at the forefront of international competition.
As Brownson steps into this new role, she not only continues to shatter ceilings but also strengthens the bridge between football’s past and its bright future. Her journey serves as a testament to perseverance, leadership, and a passion for advancing the game she loves.
