More sports betting controversy in professional sports.
While Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is of course at center of an apparent sports betting controversy himself, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that a center on the Toronto Raptors and brother of an NBA star may be in some trouble.
This from Woj:
“Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter is out of the lineup and a subject of an NBA investigation into irregularities on prop betting involving him, sources tell @DavidPurdum, @ESPNWindhorst and me. Story soon.”
Jontay Porter is the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr.
Porter has spent the majority of his professional basketball career in the NBA’s G-League having played briefly for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2020-21 and in 26 games for the Toronto Raptors this season.
The 24-year-old University of Missouri alum has made five starts this season for the Raptors.
The two games being investigated in particular are a January 26th game and a March 20th game in which Porter exited both games early with an injury.

It’s being reported that Porter’s props for the March 20 game against the Phoenix Suns, which Porter left with “an illness,” was the top moneymaker for DraftKings Sportsbook users.
Porter did not score, attempted one shot, and secured two rebounds before leaving the game.
Sportsbooks had his over/unders set at 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.
