Where will “Cream Abdul-Jabbar” land?
Robbie Avila, the viral college basketball star for Indiana State this past season, has announced that he’s entering the transfer portal.
The sophomore played a vital role in the Sycamores’ rise to prominence in the 2023-24 season, averaging 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Avila, who was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team, led Indiana State to the NIT Championship game which resulted in a 79-77 loss to Seton Hall.

He announced his transfer in a statement posted on X.
“I would like to thank my teammates and coaches over these last two years,” Avila said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “The family bonds we’ve made have been absolutely special and will last a lifetime. I am truly a better person and player going through this journey with them.
“Next I would like to thank Indiana State, the fans, and the entire city of Terre Haute for showing me the love you guys did. Without you guys, we wouldn’t have had the success we did these past two years. This place will always have a special spot in my heart and I will forever cherish what you have done for me.
“With that being said, after much consideration, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal and look forward to the future.”
As for Avila’s future, there are a few top landing spots.
Indiana State’s head coach last year, Josh Schertz, accepted the head coaching job at Saint Louis so it’s very possible Avila follows him and becomes a Billiken next season.
As an Illinois native, there are a couple of Illinois schools being floated around as potential destinations for Avila including Illinois who is coming off an Elite Eight appearance in 2023-24 and DePaul.
