Pat McAfee had a significant role on ESPN College GameDay in 2023 and he is anticipated to continue that role in 2024.
However, a recent report from media insider Andrew Marchand raised some doubts.
In response, ESPN’s president of content, Burke Magnus, addressed the situation in a Q&A with The Athletic.

Magnus confirmed that he expects McAfee to be part of College GameDay in 2024, despite the technicalities of McAfee’s contract status mentioned in Marchand’s report.
Magnus explained that it is common to have agreements without signed contracts and sees no indication that McAfee plans to leave.
“Yeah, I presume he will. What Andrew reported is technically true relative to ink on a piece of paper,” Magnus said. “But as you know in our world, it’s fairly common to have reached an agreement without an executed contract or piece of paper.”
Magnus suggested that McAfee’s uncertainty is just part of his personality and fully expects him to be on GameDay this fall.
“I think from time to time Pat likes to just muse on what he may or may not want to do,” Magnus said. “We’re not in the business of handcuffing anybody to a table. This is not unique to Pat. If somebody comes to us and says, ‘Hey, I’d rather do this or that instead of that,’ we’ll listen and have those conversations. But Pat I expect to be there on ‘College GameDay.’”
McAfee’s status as a regular host on College Gameday will be updated in the coming months.
