During the Chiefs’ tense 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills, NFL on CBS analyst Tony Romo mistakenly referred to pop star Taylor Swift as Travis Kelce’s wife, injecting a playful but inaccurate twist into their known relationship of just four months.
Romo, having experienced public scrutiny in his past relationship with Jessica Simpson, was perhaps alluding to the potential distractions that can arise when high-profile figures are romantically linked.
He had dated Simpson before marrying his wife, Candice. In 2007, during a significant Cowboys game, Romo’s performance was criticized as subpar when the broadcast continuously featured Simpson in the suite.

In the case of Kelce and Swift, the Chiefs suffered their second consecutive loss with her in attendance after a strong 4-0 start in games she had previously attended. Despite Kelce’s impressive on-field efforts, averaging over 100 yards per game with Swift present, the team faced setbacks. Against the Bills, Kelce made six catches for 83 yards, including a spectacular touchdown nullified due to Kadarius Toney’s offside penalty.
While Romo may have playfully hinted at a potential marriage between Kelce and Swift, it’s clear that such speculation is premature. Romo’s remarks underscore the importance of staying focused on football during broadcasts, avoiding unnecessary distractions or inaccurate assumptions about players’ personal lives.
