Renowned NFL quarterback Tom Brady rarely experienced defeat in significant games throughout his illustrious career, boasting seven Super Bowl victories against only three losses. However, one particular defeat remains etched in his memory.
Brady and the New England Patriots entered the Super Bowl in February of 2008 with an impressive 19-0 record, poised to make history. Yet, they were stunned by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, marking a historic upset.
Reflecting on the loss in the latest episode of “The Dynasty” on Apple, Brady expressed his disbelief and frustration, stating, “I was like, what the (expletive). That year we dominated, we destroyed teams. How did we lose? If there’s one game in history, I’d change, it’s that game. But you can’t change it. I think what you realize about football and about life is you never have it quite mastered. It was a tough lesson for me to learn.”
“We were crushed,” Brady said in the latest episode of the series. “I was crushed. My teammates were crushed, coaches were crushed. That was our history-making game. That would have been everything and I remember getting to the bus in Arizona and there was not a sound. It was pitch dark, we were as devastated as you could be. There was no sleep.
“There was no sleep for a long time.”
Despite the disappointment, Brady exhibited grace and humility, delivering a heartfelt message to his Patriots teammates in the aftermath of the crushing defeat. “As I reflect back on last season, it didn’t finish the way we wanted, but we know what we shared,” Brady remarked. “I hope we learned from it. I hope we take it forward. I always get emotional, just thinking about things I really care about, so thank you.”
Apple’s “The Dynasty” continues to release new episodes every Friday, providing fans with insights into the legendary quarterback’s journey and experiences.
