On Monday, Karl-Anthony Towns, the star player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, set a new single-game franchise scoring record by pouring in a career-high 62 points.
Despite his remarkable performance, the Timberwolves suffered a 128-125 defeat against the Charlotte Hornets at the Target Center in Minneapolis, marking the team’s first consecutive home defeats this season.
Towns displayed exceptional shooting, going 21/35 from the field and sinking 10 three-pointers during the game. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a victory, as he was benched multiple times in the fourth quarter while his team struggled late in the game.

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch did not mince words during his postgame press conference, criticizing his team’s performance. He described it as an “absolute disgusting performance of defense and immature basketball” throughout the game. While acknowledging the strategy to feed the hot hand, Finch emphasized the need to make the right plays.
“It was an absolute disgusting performance of defense and immature basketball all the way through the game. … Obviously, we’re going to try and feed the hot hand. But at some point, we’ve got to get back to making the right play,” said Finch.
Expressing his disappointment, Finch stated that the Timberwolves deserved the loss, believing that they not only “disrespected the game” but also disrespected themselves.
Despite holding an 18-point lead in the second half, the Timberwolves faltered in the fourth quarter, allowing the Hornets to outscore them 36-18 and steal the victory, overshadowing Towns’ impressive scoring record.
