The online world eagerly anticipates opportunities to “cancel” someone.
A TikToker known as “swagifypromo” has become the central figure of SportsTok after attempting to criticize Steph Curry. The account uploaded a video claiming that his 8-year-old son had saved $2500 for courtside seats at a Warriors game to meet Steph Curry. However, the video shows Curry engaging with another family while the TikToker’s son quietly stands in the background with a jersey.

Interestingly, despite this being perfect bait for outrage, people are expressing more anger towards the TikToker than Curry. Comments like “Entitled parents and kids,” with over 11,000 likes, and “How does an 8yr old save $2500? My 30yr old lives in my house,” with 15,000 likes, flood the post. Moreover, many took significant issue with the original poster’s claim that NBA players have a “duty to serve the youth” and other peculiar statements. While some are calling for Curry to make amends, the majority of commenters seem to recognize Swagify’s attempt at rage-inducing content.
Meanwhile, Curry has been delivering exceptional performances at the start of the NBA season. In the first six games, during which the Warriors have achieved a 5-1 record, Curry is already averaging 30.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. The Warriors have been dominant this season, with Curry nearly doubling the points per game of the next top scorer on the team, Klay Thompson (16.8 ppg). Whether Curry can maintain this outstanding pace throughout the season remains to be seen. Curry has only had two 30-point seasons in his extensive career (2015/16 and 2020/21).
Steph Curry generally appears to be a genuinely good person, making it challenging to cast him in a negative light.
