Tiger Woods seems to have a great relationship with his son, Charlie, but that doesn’t mean they always see eye-to-eye.
With the U.S. Open set to begin this Thursday at Pinehurst, the 15-time major champion opened up about his bond with his son.
Woods admitted that he gets frustrated by the fact that Charlie is often glued to his phone. He’d rather his son take in the world around him.

“I just don’t like the fact that he stares at his phone all the time. Put your phone away and just look around,” Woods said, via GolfDigest. “That’s one of the things I think all parents struggle with—most kids don’t look up anymore. Everyone is looking down.
“Look around you, the world is so beautiful. But everyone is staring into a screen, and it drives me nuts at times because he’s always looking down when there’s so much beauty around.”
Charlie won’t have much time to be on his phone this week, as he received a player support badge for the U.S. Open. He’ll be inside the ropes, offering his father pointers when possible.
“As far as his responsibilities, it’s the same. I trust him with my swing and my game. He’s seen it more than anybody else in the world. He’s seen me hit more golf balls than anyone,” Tiger said, via Golfweek. “I tell him what to look for, especially with putting. He gave me a couple little tips today, which was great, because I get so focused on hitting certain putts to certain pins that I tend to forget some of the things I’m working on.”
Tiger is set to tee off this Thursday at 7:29 a.m. ET.
