Tiger Woods delivered a cryptic response on Friday when queried about the potential for more players aligning with LIV Golf.
As the deadline of December 31 approaches for an agreement involving the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (which supports LIV Golf), social media buzz suggests that notable players may be poised to join the venture. While LIV Golf officials assert their lack of awareness regarding imminent signings, speculation persists.

During his round at the Hero World Challenge, Woods, now a player director on the PGA Tour policy board, addressed the rumors. He acknowledged that, hypothetically, such developments would surprise him, given the dynamic changes in the last 48 hours and weeks. Woods emphasized the urgency of the impending deadline and the swift evolution of circumstances.
“Hypothetically, would it surprise me, yes, but there’s so many different things that have happened in the last, as you said, 48 hours, but also in the last few weeks,” said Woods, who is now a player director on the PGA Tour policy board. “Things have changed and will continue to change.
“Our deadline’s coming up here soon, so there’s a lot of moving parts, a lot of different things are happening very quickly, because today’s the first day in December. We don’t have a whole lot of time.”
Jordan Spieth, recently taking Rory McIlroy’s place on the policy board, was asked about Jon Rahm’s potential move to LIV Golf and its impact on the framework agreement. Spieth highlighted Rahm’s significance to the PGA Tour and expressed the desire for top-tier players to continue competing within the tour.
When questioned about potential signings, Woods admitted that the speed of recent developments surprised him. He and other player directors have been working tirelessly amid the time crunch to navigate the evolving situation.
“Nothing has really surprised me other than the fact that there’s so many different things that have happened so fast,” he said. “That’s one of the things that all of us as player directors we’ve been working on, just that everything is now at a time crunch. It’s 24 hours a day just trying to figure it out.”
It remains unclear whether Woods hinted at potential issues in the negotiations that could prompt players to sign with LIV Golf. Following the June 6 announcement of the “framework agreement,” changes have been implemented, with Woods joining the board and structural adjustments granting players a final say in substantive alterations. Woods, displeased with the secrecy surrounding the initial deal, indicated that similar situations would not recur. As the December 31 deadline approaches, negotiations continue with a focus on governance changes and ensuring a fair and effective process.
