Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may be dominating headlines as one of the most talked-about couples of the year, but not everyone believes their love story will stand the test of time. According to the co-hosts of Australian TV show The Project, the high-profile romance could soon come to an end.
On Monday night, just one day after Swift concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour, co-host Sam Taunton speculated about an imminent breakup. “About time she can break up with her boyfriend and write a new album, I reckon,” Taunton quipped during the broadcast.
Fellow host Kate Langbroek chimed in with her own playful skepticism, saying, “If I was a guy and I went out with Taylor Swift, I would sleep with one eye open to see if she’s tinkering away at the piano.” Langbroek went on to agree with Taunton’s assertion that the relationship might be a “sham,” explaining, “I always speculate about people in the media.”
The relationship between Swift, 34, and Kelce, 35, began making waves last summer after Kelce’s public attempt to give the pop star his number at one of her Eras Tour shows. While that initial effort didn’t succeed, the two eventually connected and started dating privately.
“We started hanging out right after that,” Swift told Time magazine in a December 2023 interview. “We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”

Despite their strong start, the couple has faced their share of rumors and criticism. In September, split rumors swirled when an alleged “breakup plan” document began circulating online. Kelce’s team quickly denied the claims, calling the document “entirely false and fabricated.”
In October, Kelce addressed the rumors directly on his New Heights podcast, assuring listeners that his relationship with Swift was “real.” “We are absolutely happy,” the NFL star said at the time.
Their romance has since been filled with public and personal milestones, including post-game selfies and joint holiday celebrations. Most recently, Swift and Kelce spent Thanksgiving together with their families, solidifying their bond in the public eye.
Insiders close to the couple have painted a picture of a deeply committed relationship. In October, a source told Page Six that Swift and Kelce’s relationship is not only strong but could be heading toward engagement. “Travis is her protector in every sense of the word,” the insider said. “He is going to make sure she is physically safe and emotionally safe. He is not going to do anything careless or reckless with her.”
Despite their seemingly blissful romance, The Project hosts aren’t convinced it’s built to last, with Langbroek and Taunton pointing to Swift’s history of using personal relationships as creative inspiration. Their comments may be tongue-in-cheek, but they echo skepticism that often accompanies celebrity relationships under the spotlight.
For now, Swift and Kelce appear unfazed by the speculation, continuing to enjoy their time together amidst their hectic schedules. Whether their relationship will truly inspire Swift’s next album—or silence the critics—remains to be seen.
