Boom, the John Madden movie is on the way.
The upcoming Prime Video Sports Original called “Madden” will focus on the life of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Madden, specifically, on his creation of the famous video game series “John Madden Football”.
The film, directed by five-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell, is in talks with former Saturday Night Live star Will Ferrell to play the role of Madden, rather than comedian Frank Caliendo, who does a spot-on Madden impression.
Via Deadline:
Will Ferrell is in huddling to star as the NFL’s John Madden in Madden, a theatrical feature to be directed for Amazon/MGM by five-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell (American Hustle), multiple sources tell Deadline.
Amazon had no comment.
While Ferrell’s comedic roles tend to be quirky and absurd, he is currently in talks with Amazon to play the highly successful head coach-turned-broadcaster. Because of the co-owner of the New York Giants, Steve Tisch’s involvement in the project, it is expected that the NFL will sign off on the film. The question remains how true to life Amazon will be with the flick, especially considering the recent criticism of the “Madden NFL” video game franchise developed by EA.
Regardless, the one thing that Madden fans will undoubtedly be looking for is turducken.
