Tennis star Garbine Muguruza has a WILD engagement story.
The Spanish-Venezuelan tennis star won the 2016 French Open and Wimbledon in 2017. However, it was in August of 2021 when she found love in the unlikeliest of ways.
It was then that model Arthur Borges ran into her in Central Park and asked for a selfie.
This is how it went down according to the Huff Post,
“My hotel was close to Central Park and I was bored, so I thought I should go for a walk,” she told Spanish outlet Hola last week, as translated by its U.S. site. “I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says, ‘Good luck at the US Open.’ I was left thinking, ‘Wow, he’s so handsome.’”
The two began to run into each other more frequently thereafter, and eventually began taking walks together. Borges ended up proposing to Garbine Muguruza while vacationing in Spain.
“It felt weird,” Muguruza told Hola. “I was thinking something else and then when he proposed I started crying. I didn’t know how to react. I said yes in the midst of tears, it was very romantic.”
Muguruza played her last professional match at the Lyon Open in January of 2023. Currently ranked 132nd in the world, she has taken a hiatus from tennis.
Borges and Muguruza plan to get married in Spain next year.
