Taylor Swift seems to allude to Travis Kelce’s playful selections from a 2016 “kiss, marry, kill” game in her latest track “So High School.”
During his appearance on “AfterBuzz TV,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was given a challenging choice among Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Katy Perry. Kelce humorously responded, “Ariana, sorry, love you, but you’re gone. And then Taylor Swift would be the kiss. And what’s the last one? Katy Perry? Yeah, Katy Perry would be the marry.”
Fast forward to recent events, Kelce and Swift, both now 34, have been romantically linked since last summer. Swift’s new song from her album, “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” appears to reflect on Kelce’s past game answers.
In the song, she lyrically queries, “Are you gonna marry, kiss or kill me? (Kill me),” suggesting a playful nod to their history. “It’s just a game, but really (Really) / I’m bettin’ on all three for us two (All three).”
She adds more personal touches, referencing a moment likely from their first public date in October 2023: “Get my car door, isn’t that sweet? (That sweet) / Then pull me to the back seat (Back seat) / No one’s ever had me (Had me), not like you.”
Additionally, in “So High School,” Swift creatively ties in Kelce’s football career with her own lyrical prowess: “You know how to ball / I know Aristotle,” continuing with, “Brand new, full throttle / Teach me while your bros play ‘Grand Theft Auto’ / It’s true, swear, scouts honor. You knew what you wanted and, boy, you got her.”
Kelce shared his awe at Swift’s intellect with WSJ. Magazine in November, saying, “Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f—ing mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.” This romance not only marks a new chapter for both but also inspires Swift’s music with a blend of personal and whimsical elements.
