It’s more than just a fashion statement.
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, recently hit the golf course with friends, and eagle-eyed Taylor Swift fans couldn’t help but notice a subtle tribute to the pop icon in his attire.
Kelce sported a Sherwood Country Club baseball cap adorned with the year “1989” embroidered on it. While this may seem like a nod to the club’s founding year, it holds a deeper significance for both Swift and Kelce, as it happens to be the title of Swift’s acclaimed fifth studio album and the birth year of both the singer and the football star.
Swifties on X were quick to point out the clever connection, with one fan noting the synchronicity of the cap featuring an archer, a reference to Swift’s album cover imagery. Another joked about Kelce’s friends attempting to distract him by playing Swift’s “Bad Blood” during the game, only for it to enhance his performance instead.

This isn’t the first time Kelce has subtly paid homage to his girlfriend through his wardrobe. During Swift’s attendance at a Chiefs game last September, Kelce sported a KidSuper Studios outfit in the same color palette as Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” album artwork. In a savvy marketing move, the brand later added “1989” to the style names of the ensemble.
Since then, Swifties have delighted in spotting additional nods to Swift’s music in Kelce’s attire, from references to albums like “Evermore” and “Red” to suspicions of inspiration drawn from Swift’s own fashion choices.
In turn, Swift has reciprocated the affection through her wardrobe, often seen donning custom Kelce jerseys and other Chiefs-themed attire during game days, showcasing their mutual support and admiration for each other.
