Travis Kelce was awarded Athlete of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday, despite previously dismissing his nomination as “nonsense.”
The Kansas City Chiefs player, who has been in Missouri since his team’s Super Bowl LVIII victory, did not attend the ceremony held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
Kelce found himself nominated alongside prominent athletes such as Coco Gauff, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Sabrina Ionescu, Simone Biles, and Stephen Curry.
Swifties quickly weighed in on Kelce’s latest W:

During a January episode of the “New Heights” podcast he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis had questioned his inclusion in the category, jokingly attributing it to his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
Notably, Travis omitted mentioning his association with pop star Taylor Swift, who won four awards that evening but was absent from the ceremony due to her ongoing Eras Tour in Australia.
During the podcast discussion, Travis also commented on the absence of Biles’ husband, Green Bay Packers safety Owens, from the nominees, somewhat sarcastically questioning why he wasn’t included despite his commendable performance.
The conversation referenced Owens’ controversial remarks in December, where he controversially claimed to be more of a “catch” than his wife, an Olympic medalist. Despite backlash, Biles stood by Owens, though his previous tweets showed he had indeed followed gymnastics before meeting her.
Owens doubled down on his claim of ignorance regarding Biles’ identity, even amid evidence to the contrary. The couple married in April 2023, first in a courthouse wedding and later celebrated with a larger ceremony in Mexico.
