Tom Brady’s debut season as FOX’s lead color commentator has had its share of ups and downs. After a somewhat shaky start in Week 1, the NFL legend found his rhythm in Week 2, offering a glimpse of his potential as a broadcaster. However, his transition from the field to the booth continues to draw feedback from seasoned veterans of the television industry.
One of the latest to weigh in on Brady’s performance is former New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Victor Cruz. Cruz, who has also made the leap to media, shared his thoughts on how Brady can refine his broadcasting style.
“I think Tom needs to loosen up a bit in the booth,” Cruz told Us Weekly. “He’s got the knowledge, but I feel like sometimes he gets too caught up in the Xs and Os. He just needs to relax and talk football like he’s having a conversation. That will come with time and more reps.”
Cruz emphasized that Brady’s growing pains are normal for someone new to the broadcast booth and expressed confidence that the seven-time Super Bowl champion will eventually find his voice. “With each game he calls, he’ll get more comfortable, and he’ll start to understand what works for him. It’s a learning process, just like anything else.”

This weekend, Brady will be back in the booth at AT&T Stadium, where he’ll call the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys alongside Erin Andrews and Kevin Burkhardt. Interestingly, FOX has featured Brady in all three of the Cowboys’ games so far this season.
However, he won’t be on the mic for their Week 4 matchup, as that game will air on “Thursday Night Football.”
As Brady continues to settle into his role as a broadcaster, fans and critics alike are watching closely to see how he evolves in this new chapter of his career.
