“I had a very abusive father that I speak about,” Gramatica shared. “I’m not touching the subject for sympathy. I want to make sure people don’t read the book and feel sorry for me because everything I lived through made me a better person and a better father.”
He explained that his childhood experiences motivated him to ensure his own children would grow up in a loving and nurturing environment.
“When my first son Nico was born, I realized how bad it really was,” Gramatica said. “I love that kid so much that I thought, ‘How could anyone do what my father did to me?’ That’s when it hit me—I had to break this cycle.”

“We talked, and we made a pact,” he said. “We haven’t spoken to our dad since because we just don’t want that type of abuse around our families. I have three kids, and my brother Santiago has two kids. It’s about protecting our families and making sure this stops with us.”
Gramatica hopes his story will inspire others facing similar challenges to break free and create a better future for their children. “If somebody reads the book and realizes, ‘I need to break this,’ I want them to take action sooner than I did,” he explained.

His oldest son, Nico, has followed in his footsteps, becoming the placekicker for the University of South Florida football team. Gramatica beams with pride when speaking about Nico, knowing he’s created a supportive environment that fosters his son’s growth and success.

In addition to his reflections on fatherhood, Gramatica’s memoir delves into his illustrious football career. After playing college football at Kansas State, he was drafted by the Buccaneers with the third pick in 1999. Gramatica spent five seasons in Tampa Bay, where he won a Super Bowl in 2003.
Following his tenure with the Bucs, Gramatica played briefly for the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints before retiring in 2008.
