Did Deion Sanders truly have ties to the Death Row family?
According to Suge Knight, the answer appears to be yes. Sanders, known as “Prime,” briefly ventured into the world of rap, investing over half a million dollars of his own money into the endeavor. He facilitated studio time for fellow artists, paid Dallas Austin, and produced multiple songs, all as part of his rap pursuit.
However, as Suge Knight revealed, there was a pivotal moment when Sanders expressed reluctance to continue with Death Row Records, citing their preference not to collaborate with a Black-owned company, despite Sanders covering all the expenses and having signed the artists under his name. Instead, they opted for an association with the Interscope brand.

Sanders released two albums, “Prime Time” in 1994 and “The Encore Remix” in 2005. “Prime Time” even achieved notable chart positions, reaching #70 on the Billboard Hip Hop chart and #14 on the US Heatseekers chart. However, the revelation that these albums could have been initially connected to Suge Knight’s iconic label adds an intriguing layer to their history.
In the present day, Sanders has taken up a different cause, advocating for justice for his players at Colorado. He called on the NCAA or UCLA to directly compensate his players after reports of a robbery involving the Colorado Buffaloes during a recent road game. Sanders expressed his expectation that the NCAA would address the issue and pledged to create a list of the items lost by the players. He urged the NCAA to take action, given their responsibility for a range of matters.
Sanders emphasized that it is disheartening for the athletes to be both victims of a robbery and actively competing on the field. UCLA officials confirmed that a police report had been filed with the Pasadena PD. The incident took place at the Rose Bowl, situated about 26 miles from the main UCLA campus, during UCLA’s victory over the Buffs.
Deion Sanders consistently manages to stay in the headlines, whether through his music career, sports endeavors, or social advocacy.
