The trade of Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors still feels surreal.
Despite Paul’s previous rivalry with Steph Curry and the animosity between him and Draymond Green, doubts persisted about how well he would fit into the team’s on-court dynamics, let alone the off-court dynamics.
However, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently shed some light on the situation.
In an interview with Robin Lundberg of Sports Illustrated, Kerr explained how CP3 would bring a fresh perspective to the team and help them move away from their current “one-dimensional” style of play.
“Our team last year needed another way to attack and we became a little too one dimensional with Steph [Curry] in high ball screens,” said Kerr. “We needed another playmaker to give us a different look and Chris is, as we know, one of the all-time great pick-and-roll players and he’ll know how to control the tempo. It’s hugely important—especially in playoff games—to have guys like that.”
Kerr emphasized the need for an additional offensive strategy and expressed concern about over-relying on Curry in high ball screens.
He stated, “Our team last year needed another way to attack, and we became a little too predictable with Steph [Curry] in those situations.
Although questions still linger about the implementation of this new style of play and which lineups Kerr will employ to ensure they don’t undermine the team’s performance, one thing remains clear: the addition of Chris Paul brings a significant potential for improvement.
