On his show this Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith took a moment to address Democrats with a cautionary message regarding the ongoing legal challenges involving Donald Trump.
Smith expressed concern that if Trump escapes severe consequences in his various legal cases, it could lead to his nomination as the Republican candidate in the next presidential election, setting the stage for a rematch with Joe Biden. Smith argued that Trump could potentially leverage his legal troubles as a campaign tool, portraying himself as a victim of political fearmongering by the opposing party.
Smith critiqued the Democrats’ strategy, saying, “To my liberal friends out there, all you’re doing is showing that you’re scared you can’t beat him on the issues and merits. That’s why he keeps saying, ‘It’s a political campaign against me.’ That’s why he keeps saying, ‘They can’t beat me at the election, at the polls. This is the only way they could do it.’”

He warned that failing to secure a conviction could inadvertently bolster Trump’s narrative of electoral rigging, potentially leading to ongoing unrest. “If you don’t put him in jail and he goes from the presumed GOP nominee to the official GOP nominee and he goes to the polls, even though he was going to whine about winning and it being rigged again, you have given more fire to that argument, which means we’ll never have peace in this country,” Smith articulated.
The segment received mixed reactions, with some viewers supporting Smith’s points, while others preferred he stick to sports commentary.
Despite the varied feedback, Smith’s earnestness on the subject was clear, reflecting his deep engagement with the topic beyond his usual sports analyses.
