Stephen A. Smith is never shy about playing the race card.
During a recent podcast appearance, ESPN icon Stephen A. Smith shared his perspective on Pat McAfee and their differing approaches in the media landscape.
Smith acknowledged his admiration for McAfee and the accomplishments he’s achieved in recent years. However, he suggested that McAfee lacks the same level of “polished political” demeanor as himself, attributing it partially to their contrasting racial backgrounds.
“I have immense respect for Pat McAfee, I truly do,” Smith expressed during the Bussin With The Boys podcast alongside former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.
“I love his swag; I love the fact that he’s an honest brother. He don’t give a [expletive]…That’s my kind of dude. That works for me. Now, is he as polished politically as me? Nope, because he has no desire to be number one. And number two, if we’re being honest, he’s white, and I’m Black; he doesn’t have to be. I had to be. So I get all that, and I’m not knocking him for it.”

Despite their differences, Smith emphasized his belief in McAfee’s exceptional talent and expressed his support for McAfee’s continued success in the media industry.
“Pat McAfee is an exceptional talent, and I’m genuinely rooting for him because he’s been a trailblazer in this field,” he affirmed. “Just like Bill Simmons, Joe Rogan, and others. Their impact in the digital realm speaks volumes. I’m still finding my footing in this arena. I’m a newcomer.”
Known for his outspoken nature, Stephen A. Smith’s remarks often generate debate and controversy within the sports media landscape.
