Stephen A. Smith is known for his straightforward approach when expressing his opinions.
Stephen A. Smith has never been one to shy away from making his opinion known, and he has joined the prominent discussion in college football this season. Michigan is currently facing a potential disciplinary action notice from the NCAA as part of its ongoing investigation into the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal.
Smith firmly believes that the Wolverines, who are presently undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the country, should be prohibited from participating in the College Football Playoff until the NCAA’s investigation reaches its conclusion.

“You do not get to go to the College Football Playoff and potentially prevent another institution from claiming one of those final four spots,” Smith declared during Tuesday’s episode of First Take.
“The fact that the investigation is still open is nonsensical to me. Expedite the process, reach a conclusion, tell me they didn’t do it…but as long as the investigation is open, there is no way the Michigan Wolverines can be in the College Football Playoff.”
The Wolverines may be undefeated at present, but they must still secure their place in the Playoff.
Achieving this likely entails defeating Ohio State and winning the Big Ten championship. However, they could potentially face a postseason ban from the Big Ten due to the ongoing scandal.
The upcoming weeks will reveal Michigan’s postseason eligibility, both within the conference and beyond. Given the NCAA’s typical focus on financial considerations, their exclusion could have financial consequences.
