Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe found themselves embroiled in a lively debate on First Take regarding Russell Wilson’s recent move to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Following Wilson’s agreement to join the Steelers on a one-year deal, Smith criticized Sharpe for what he perceived as a lack of excitement about the signing.
In response, the Hall of Fame tight end likened Wilson’s situation to that of a single woman on the dating scene.
“He’s thrown 26 touchdowns last year, the Steelers threw 25 in the last two years,” Smith argued. “Shannon, I expect more enthusiasm from you, bro.”
Sharpe retorted, “Can I give it to you like this – he’s on the market. No matter how fine a chick is. No matter how many Birkin bags or Chanel purses she has. If she’s on the market, what does that tell you?”

Sharpe illustrated his point by enumerating the woman’s attributes, emphasizing that her availability indicates a lack of interest from others.
“That tells me that somebody didn’t want her. That don’t mean I shouldn’t,” Smith countered.
Wilson’s move to the Steelers comes after a disappointing stint with the Denver Broncos, Sharpe’s former team, where he failed to lead the team to the playoffs in two seasons.
Sharpe argued that Wilson’s availability on the market suggests questions about his value, despite Smith’s assertion of his prowess. The debate continued as Smith questioned if Wilson represents a significant upgrade for the Steelers. Sharpe responded with another analogy, likening Wilson’s value to that of bologna over “potty meat.”
Despite the spirited back-and-forth, both analysts conveyed their differing perspectives on Wilson’s move to the Steelers.
