During his appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, Stephen A. Smith discussed various topics that sparked a lot of interest online.
One of the more significant discussions revolved around pro athletes attempting to get journalists fired for asking challenging questions.
Smith emphasized the importance of understanding that journalists have a job to do, even if they don’t necessarily want to ask difficult questions.
He pointed out that their livelihoods are at stake, while athletes have the security of lucrative contracts.
Smith also mentioned that he knew of certain players who had tried to get journalists fired for asking them about certain topics.
However, he chose not to reveal their identities, maintaining their anonymity.
“You know, you got cats that, and they’re gonna remain nameless as players because I’m not going to do that to them, […] But when I went hard on a couple of superstar players, I happen to know for a fact they tried to get a couple of journalists fired, and it’s because the journalists asked them about something that they were hearing.”

He expressed concern about the potential repercussions this has on journalists’ jobs, as well as the impact it has on the overall quality of interviews and reporting.
While Smith acknowledged the value of athletes starting their own podcasts and becoming their own media outlets, he lamented that this may lead to tough questions being avoided due to players’ perspectives.
This, in turn, puts journalists’ careers in jeopardy and prevents important conversations from being had.
