The Golden State Warriors are already gearing up for the upcoming season.
Steph Curry and the entire Warriors roster kicked off their pre-training camp preparations on Friday night (September 15th) at Carversteak, located inside Resorts World Las Vegas. They took over the Whiskey Room and Knife Shop private dining rooms, indulging in the delectable offerings of the award-winning steakhouse. Their feast included the Grand Plateau shellfish tower, Seared Crab Cakes, Wagyu Cheesesteak Bites, Lobster En Croute, F1 Wagyu, and a variety of mouthwatering side dishes.
Among NBA teams, the one that could potentially feel the most impact from the NBA’s updated rest rules is none other than the Golden State Warriors. This situation sets them apart from the perpetually injury-riddled LA Clippers, the aging Los Angeles Lakers, and the reigning champion Denver Nuggets. It even distinguishes them from the veteran Milwaukee Bucks and the star-studded Boston Celtics, as well as the up-and-coming Cleveland Cavaliers.
Surprisingly, the only team with as many “star” players as the Dubs under the league’s new player participation policy is the Minnesota Timberwolves. What’s equally surprising is the Golden State veteran who doesn’t meet the criteria for “star” status. Klay Thompson hasn’t been an All-Star since 2019 and hasn’t made an All-NBA Team since his days with the 73-win Dubs. This three-season absence from such accolades prevents him from earning the “star” label.
For the Warriors entering Klay Thompson’s 11th season, this situation provides significant relief, particularly considering his history of injuries. And that’s not the only benefit they enjoy. Exceptions based on age and experience also make it easier for Steve Kerr and Mike Dunleavy Jr. to manage rest during the grueling 82-game season, not just compared to the Timberwolves but also when compared to the Bucks and Cavaliers. The league’s updated player participation policy undoubtedly places a strong emphasis on a prudent rest strategy for the 2022-23 season.
Off the court, the Warriors’ participation and adherence to these rules pose no concerns.
