The NFL permits celebrations, but they must not be excessively extravagant.
Stefon Diggs found out that his Steve “Stone Cold” Austin-inspired touchdown celebration would come at a steeper cost than just $18. The star wide receiver for the Bills received a fine of $13,659 for unsportsmanlike conduct due to his celebration during the team’s Week 4 victory over the Dolphins, as reported by NFL Network.

Following his 11-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, which extended Buffalo’s lead to 21-14, Diggs dashed over to the fans, grabbed two beers, and clanged them together, replicating the famous wrestling move associated with the professional wrestling icon. In the process, he sprayed the jubilant fans, resulting in the penalty and fine.
The touchdown marked one of three receptions by Diggs on an exceptional day, where he hauled in six catches for 120 yards in a resounding victory.
“I was happy,” Diggs said after the game. “This football thing, you never know how it’s gonna show up. … I feel like we came out with the right mindset of guys are blocking their asses off. The touchdowns, it’s all the glitz and the glam, but the big guys don’t get enough credit. You need a lot of things to happen for me to catch the ball and for me to make some plays, so I want to give them all the credit.”
Diggs has had a blazing start to the year, amassing 31 receptions for 399 yards and four touchdowns.
Since their Week 1 defeat to the Jets, the Bills have surged to a 3-1 record, securing the top spot in the AFC East. They are currently competing in London against the Jaguars, with the game underway as we speak.
