Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson enjoyed a lively session at PNC Park last Friday, taking batting practice with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Wilson, who played baseball during his time at NC State and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft, demonstrated his batting skills with an impressive swing that sent the ball soaring.
Although he ultimately chose to pursue a career in football, Wilson’s baseball rights were traded a few times, reflecting his potential in the sport. During the practice session, Wilson also had fun tossing a football with Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen outside the batting cages.

Later that evening, Wilson threw out the first pitch before the Pirates’ game against the Boston Red Sox.
Having signed with the Steelers at the start of free agency, Wilson has been enthusiastic about his new team and his move to Pittsburgh. He is expected to be the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, bringing renewed hope to a team seeking improved quarterback performance from last year.
