According to multiple sources with direct knowledge, Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter managed a VIP account at FanDuel in Colorado, placing millions of dollars in wagers from 2021 to 2023, as reported by the Action Network.
Importantly, none of Porter’s bets included games from the NBA or college basketball, given his brother Michael Porter Jr.’s significant role with the 2023 NBA champion Denver Nuggets.
Sources claim Porter placed over 1,000 bets through the sportsbook, with one source noting he was “firing all of the time.” During this period, Porter played for three different NBA G League teams. His betting activity on FanDuel stopped shortly before he signed a two-way contract with the Raptors, according to a source.
ESPN disclosed in March that the NBA was investigating Jontay due to unusual betting patterns on his performance, particularly during two games where bets on his underperformance yielded significant profits. This was supported by data from DraftKings, showing these prop bets as highly profitable, especially when Porter exited the games early due to ailments.

The Colorado gaming regulators have since intervened, requesting state sportsbooks to review and report any accounts operated by Porter, particularly focusing on any NBA-related betting activities.
The NBA prohibits its players and employees from betting on league-affiliated games, although betting on other sports is not explicitly banned. Amidst the ongoing investigation, Jontay Porter has been placed on leave by the Raptors.
Further details reveal that on specific game days, such as January 26 against the Clippers, bets against Porter’s statistical achievements were particularly lucrative, with DraftKings reporting substantial payouts. Porter, plagued by injuries throughout his career, left early in these games, which impacted the betting outcomes.
Additionally, Porter managed a Discord account offering advice on stocks, cryptocurrencies, and occasionally, gambling for a monthly fee.
While his brother Michael has flourished in the NBA, Jontay’s career has been marred by injuries and challenges, including two ACL tears during his time at Missouri. Despite these setbacks, he entered the 2019 NBA Draft but went undrafted, leading to stints in the G League before joining the Raptors.
A FanDuel spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, citing the ongoing investigation.
