Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might not have gotten enough sleep before his recent press conference, as he made a perplexing comparison between himself and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
While addressing the contract situations involving key players like quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, Jones veered into an unusual tangent. He reminisced about his days playing option quarterback and somehow linked it to Mahomes.
“We are so involved with trying to see where we are with our situations,” Jones began. “That is a major part of seeing the leaves fall, seeing the time go by… By the way, in my life, I have played option quarterback so many times and wait until the last leaf on the tree. If you want to picture a pure option quarterback going out to the sidelines, I have run that ball and kept it and not handed off to the [running] back, not pitched it back, not thrown it, and I have run that thing all the way out to the sidelines before I made the decision. Because I couldn’t get whatever it took, it wasn’t right for me to make the decision. So what our fans, what you’re seeing, what we deal with is we’re buying time. We’re option-quarterbacking, and we’re going out toward the sideline, and we haven’t handed it off or pitched it. We’re trying to make our mind up [with] what to do? Does that sound like [Patrick] Mahomes to you? A little bit? Ok. It do, it really do. Having said that, I’m just trying to give you a description here. That’s what we’re doing. We’re waiting for something to happen in the morning.”

About the only thing Jones and Mahomes have in common is the number of Super Bowl rings. They both have three apiece. That’s pretty much where their similarities end.
Fans certainly noticed the bizarre nature of Jones’ comments and didn’t hesitate to share their thoughts on social media:
“Jerry Jones is more like Daniel Jones,” one user quipped, referring to the New York Giants’ quarterback.
“The Joe Biden of the NFL,” another commented, drawing a parallel to President Joe Biden’s occasional rambling speeches.
“This @dallascowboys press conference becomes more of a nonsensical mess every year. It did not instill confidence,” declared a third user.
In conclusion, this was far from Jerry Jones’ best press conference.
Instead of providing clarity on contract negotiations, he left fans and media scratching their heads with his confusing analogies and unexpected comparison to Patrick Mahomes.
