Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” dropped this Friday and it quickly became the center of attention for her fans who eagerly parsed each track for hidden meanings.
One song in particular, “The Alchemy,” has sparked a flurry of speculation on social media, with many believing it contains a veiled critique aimed at Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney, while simultaneously being a tribute to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
The line from the song that has everyone talking is, “Touch down, call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team.” This has led fans to speculate that Swift might be referencing Toney, who, despite being on the Chiefs’ roster, did not participate in their Super Bowl campaign and last played on December 17 against the Patriots.

Further fueling the rumors, Toney addressed his playoff absence on Instagram Live, asserting, “I’m not hurt. On God, not hurt, none of that. It go from hip to ankle to this to that… What else? I’m in a body cast right now, at this point,” contradicting reports from the Chiefs that he was sidelined due to injury.
While there is no official confirmation that Swift’s lyrics were intended as a dig at Toney, the fanbase is buzzing with theories. Tweets range from, “Taylor called out Kadarius Toney,” to others enjoying the drama, saying, “That would be hilarious if she started throwing subs on behalf of Kelce.”
Social media users are even playfully suggesting, “Kadarius has 24 hours to respond,” anticipating a possible reaction from Toney.
Regardless of whether Toney chooses to address the song, Swift is likely more focused on the widespread acclaim her new album is receiving, enjoying another successful release.
