New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields reportedly had plenty of suitors before the Chicago Bears traded him to the Steelers.
According to a report by Courtney Cronin and Brooke Pryor of ESPN, five other teams besides the Steelers contacted the Bears about trading for Fields.
“A source told ESPN that five teams in addition to Pittsburgh reached out to Chicago, and the majority of those teams had envisioned the former first-round pick in a backup role. Additionally, the Steelers had been in talks with the Bears throughout the week of free agency and reached out again after sending Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday.”
With all the interest surrounding Fields, it’s surprising that the Bears could only land a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025 for him.

However, it appears that Fields only wanted to play for the Steelers and Bears GM Ryan Poles respected that request in order to “do right by Justin Fields.”
Fields will enter the season with the Steelers as back-up to Russell Wilson who signed a one-year contract with them this offseason.
