Packers safety Jonathan Owens, who is married to Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, has faced an excessive amount of criticism on social media this week.
In an episode of “The Pivot” podcast, Owens mentioned that he didn’t know who Biles was when they matched on a dating app in 2020.
“So literally, had been on the app for a couple of days, man, and it’s like she pops up, and I’m like, ‘Let me see who this is’ … I had never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,” Owens explained.
His statement raised eyebrows worldwide, given Biles’ status as one of the most iconic gymnasts. Some were also upset that Owens referred to himself as “the catch” in the relationship.

Despite the backlash, Biles doesn’t see any issue with her husband’s comments and even reposted supportive tweets.
“Never thought I’d see the day where you get canceled for having confidence,” one user wrote.
“It’s clear most women didn’t watch the full podcast… The attacks this guy is facing based upon a 10-second clip about HIS experience are wild,” another person said. “He literally goes the entire interview honoring and showering his wife Simone with love… You people are pathetic smh.”
In essence, Biles was not offended by her husband’s remarks. The hope is that this unwarranted drama concludes soon.
