Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, enjoyed a celebratory dinner after facing some online backlash for her outfit choice at his Chicago Bears game on Saturday. The couple, who tied the knot in April 2023, were seen dining at the upscale restaurant Maple & Ash in Chicago following the Bears’ preseason victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at Soldier Field.
Biles, the Olympic gymnastics champion, shared a photo on social media of herself and Owens posing together during the dinner. In the snap, Biles playfully held up a menu emblazoned with the words “OLYMPIC F*@KING CHAMPION,” a nod to her incredible achievements.
The couple also shared a toast with friends and family at the table, raising their glasses to celebrate their recent successes—Owens’ preseason win with the Bears and Biles’ historic performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, earlier that day, Biles found herself at the center of a social media storm for wearing a Green Bay Packers-themed jacket to the game. The jacket, adorned with black-and-white action shots of Owens from his time with the Packers last season, featured a prominent Packers logo on the shoulder. The choice of attire was seen as a faux pas by many fans, given the fierce rivalry between the Packers and the Bears.
The backlash on social media was swift. One fan tweeted, “It’s ridiculously unaware of your surroundings and insulting to her husband.” Another added, “With all due respect, Simone Biles gotta throw that jacket in the trash ASAP. How did she get in with that?” Even sports reporter Chase Daniel weighed in, acknowledging that while Biles was “obviously supporting her husband,” her outfit clashed with “one of the oldest rivalries in all of football.”
Despite the criticism, Biles has not publicly addressed the controversy. Instead, she focused on celebrating with Owens and their loved ones, seemingly unfazed by the online chatter.
During the game, Biles was also seen wearing a protective boot, a result of a calf injury she sustained during the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying warmups. Despite the setback, Biles went on to dominate the Olympics, securing three gold medals and one silver, further cementing her status as the most decorated gymnast of all time.
Reflecting on her grueling Olympic experience, Biles recently admitted in a TikTok video that she was exhausted by the end of the Games. “I am really tired,” she confessed. “I feel like my body is slowly starting to shut down, like, it’s ready to be done.”
As the 27-year-old continues to recover from her injury and adjusts to life post-Olympics, she remains committed to supporting her husband’s NFL career, even if it means navigating the occasional wardrobe controversy.
