Jay Norvell of Colorado State has drawn attention to himself this week by offering criticism of Deion Sanders.
In the lead-up to Colorado State’s rivalry match against Colorado, Norvell decided to voice his opinions on Sanders’ approach to press conferences.
“They’re tired of all that stuff,” Norvell remarked, as reported by On3. “They really are tired of it. And I sat down with ESPN today, and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, ‘I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off.’ And I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.’ That’s what my mother taught me.”
During an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” on Friday morning, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders shared his perspective on Norvell’s comments. As expected, he came to his father’s defense.
Shedeur stated, “You’ve got to be quite foolish to engage in that.”
Deion Sanders responded to Norvell’s remarks on Thursday, stating that he had made this weekend’s game personal.
“Why would you want to discuss us when we don’t talk about anyone else? All we do here is put in the work and perform on Saturdays. But when they provide us with ammunition, they’ve just made things worse,” Sanders expressed. “It was going to be a good game, but they’ve gone ahead and made it personal.”
Colorado and Colorado State are scheduled to kick off at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN, with the Buffaloes being favored by double digits.
