Shedeur Sanders is throwing his full support behind one particular Heisman Trophy contender after his team’s latest victory. The Colorado Buffaloes, ranked No. 20, secured a commanding 41-27 win over Texas Tech on Saturday, pushing their record to an impressive 7-2 for the season. Shedeur Sanders played a pivotal role, delivering a strong performance with 291 passing yards and four total touchdowns—three through the air and one on the ground—helping his team cruise to victory.
However, it wasn’t just Sanders lighting up the field. Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter made his presence felt in a big way, showcasing his versatility once again.
Hunter led the team in receiving, hauling in nine passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, he continued to demonstrate why he’s one of the most dynamic players in the country, making several key plays, including an incredible interception attempt in the first half.
Though the highlight-reel catch was ultimately nullified by a penalty, it still underscored Hunter’s rare ability to influence games on both offense and defense.

Following the win, Sanders took to social media to endorse Hunter for college football’s most prestigious award. In a post to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sanders made his stance clear: “@TravisHunterJr should win the Heisman,” he wrote, leaving no doubt about who he thinks is most deserving of the honor.
Hunter, a junior, has certainly made a compelling case for the Heisman Trophy. Though the race is packed with worthy candidates like Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, and Miami’s Cam Ward, Hunter’s unique contributions stand out.
With 856 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on offense, plus two interceptions and seven passes defended on defense, Hunter is the only player in the Heisman conversation who plays effectively on both sides of the ball, giving him an edge that others simply can’t match.
In the 21st century, only one non-quarterback or running back has won the Heisman Trophy—Devonta Smith in 2020. Yet Sanders, along with many others, believes that Hunter has the ability to break the mold again. Hunter has delivered multiple game-changing moments throughout the season, showcasing a skillset that is virtually unparalleled in college football.
If he keeps up this level of play, there’s a growing belief that he could defy the odds and claim the Heisman in 2024, proving once again that the most impactful player doesn’t always fit the traditional mold.
