The college football spring transfer portal window has just opened, ushering in an intense upcoming 15 days for the sport.
Players nationwide are set to enter their names into the portal, aiming to find new programs where they can get more playtime or potentially increase their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings. For the second consecutive year, Colorado is emerging as a hot destination for transfers.
Under the leadership of head coach Deion Sanders, Colorado has become a focal point in the transfer portal scene. Last year, Sanders infused the Buffs’ roster with over 50 transfers before his inaugural season, and he has already welcomed 25 new players for 2024. Sanders values portal players highly, often preferring them over traditional high school recruits, and he plans to continue enhancing his team’s lineup.
Sanders’ approach is something his two sons, both key players for the Buffs, have embraced wholeheartedly. On Instagram, Shilo Sanders, a safety for the team, encouraged “Defense transfers DM me” and directed offensive players to contact his brother, Shedeur Sanders, via his Instagram handle @ShedeurSanders.
Shedeur, meanwhile, took to the platform formerly known as Twitter, inviting transfers to consider joining Colorado for what is likely his final season with the team.
After finishing last season with a 4-8 record, the Buffs have made significant additions, particularly at wide receiver and in the secondary, and they’ve completely overhauled their offensive line. While still evolving, the team’s rapid transformation through the portal suggests that expectations in Boulder are on the rise.
