NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal offered candid advice to Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce as the seasoned Pro Bowler contemplates the conclusion of his career.
At 36 years old, Kelce is weighing retirement but has yet to make a public decision regarding his future on the gridiron.
With nearly two decades of NBA experience, notably with the Los Angeles Lakers, and four titles under his belt, O’Neal shared his wisdom with Kelce, urging him to embrace retirement if he chooses it and to cherish his family.
“My advice to you is if you are going to retire, accept it, (and) enjoy your family, brother,” O’Neal expressed. Reflecting on his own mistakes, O’Neal emphasized the importance of family, encouraging Kelce to appreciate his wife and children and not dwell on the past.
Kelce, a Super Bowl LII champion with the Eagles, shares three daughters with his wife, Kylie, while O’Neal, a father of six, has spoken openly about his past marital struggles.
“You got the ring. People know who you are. Enjoy,” O’Neal continued. Acknowledging his own regrets, O’Neal emphasized the significance of finding contentment in family life, contrasting it with his own solitary existence after losing his family due to past mistakes.

Kelce has expressed a desire to remain involved in football in some capacity post-retirement, exploring opportunities in broadcasting and coaching. Reports suggest that networks such as Amazon, NBC, and CBS are interested in securing his services, with Kelce making appearances on Amazon’s Thursday Night Football broadcasts during the Eagles’ bye week this season.
While Kelce’s recent discussions with Fox and ESPN are seen as preliminary, he has indicated a preference for coaching at either the high school or NFL level, citing concerns about the time commitment required for college coaching.
