Sports show host Shannon Sharpe is taking aim at “brash talking” Jamaican fans on social media following Noah Lyles’ gold medal win at the Paris Olympics.
Sharpe reminded his followers about the bold claims made by Jamaican fans leading up to the Games. Lyles himself engaged in some trash talking before his trip to Paris, referencing a June loss to Jamaican rival Oblique Seville. On Sunday, he backed up his words with action.
Seville and teammate Kishane Thompson were both in the 100-meter field, competing against Noah Lyles and others for the title of World’s Fastest Man. Lyles emerged victorious by the slimmest of margins, crossing the finish line five one-hundredths of a second before Thompson to claim first place. Meanwhile, Seville finished in last place.
The heated rivalry between U.S. and Jamaican runners sparked social media fires, with many fans hyping up their respective sides ahead of the Games. Following Lyles’ gold medal win, Shannon Sharpe took to social media for a victory lap.
“Where’s all that brash talking you Jamaicans were doing? When Thompson laid down that 9.77, even got the prime minister involved. Told you we had something for y’all. I get the women were hurt, but Noah smoked Kishane and made Seville tap out,” Sharpe wrote on X, his official social media account.

His response immediately sparked a back-and-forth with the fanbase, with a string of insults populating Sharpe’s X timeline.
He reveled in the moment at Team Jamaica’s expense, taunting, “Who’s going home with the gold?” in response to a commenter who noted the near-identical times for Lyles and Thompson. For Sharpe, it’s all about the final result, not the times.
Sharpe might also be ready to open up his checkbook following Lyles’ performance, having pledged to pay out $25k for American winners. With its gold medal wins on Sunday, Team USA moved into first place in the medal count, and Shannon Sharpe won’t let anyone forget it.
