Breaking old habits can be a challenging process, as Shannon Sharpe discovered during his inaugural appearance on ESPN’s “First Take.”
His seven-year stint alongside Skip Bayless on “Undisputed” led him to mistakenly refer to Stephen A. Smith as “Skip” on at least two occasions.

The first slip-up occurred in Sharpe’s very first segment on the show, following an introduction featuring him and Smith. Host Molly Qerim posed a segment question about whether the Kansas City Chiefs should be on “upset alert” in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, especially if defensive tackle Chris Jones held out. Sharpe began his response with, “Yes, because, if you think about it, the Lions were picked to win that division, Skip.” Almost immediately, he realized his error and promptly corrected himself, saying, “Skip, oh boy. I’m sorry. Stephen A.”
Smith graciously responded with, “It’s all right, it’s all right,” and they proceeded with a nine-minute discussion about the Chiefs, with a brief mention of the Lions.
In true “embrace debate” fashion, Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith also delved into a classic topic, the comparison between Michael Jordan and LeBron James, engaging in a passionate argument over who is the greater basketball player.
It’s a debate that has been explored extensively, making it one topic that doesn’t need revisiting.
