Former NFL player Sergio Brown has re-emerged on social media, putting out a video days after being reported missing following his mother’s tragic death, with her body discovered in a creek near her Illinois home.
In the video posted on an Instagram account named @intplayerwithapassport (despite having a verified account on the platform), the former defensive back appeared to be at a vacation resort while speaking to his followers.
Brown’s message in the video seemed somewhat incoherent as he tagged ESPN and stated, “Fake news. Fake news. Fake news.” He went on to suggest that the FBI had entered his house on the anniversary of Bob Marley’s death, referring to the date “with the 511 haze and gas unwarranted.” Brown claimed that he had been kidnapped twice from his home by the Maywood Police Department, insisting that it had to be either the FBI or the local police force responsible.
He expressed disbelief regarding his mother’s situation, asserting that he had believed she was on vacation in Sinaloa. Brown appeared to be convinced that this was “fake news” and speculated that some powerful entity like the FBI was behind it all.
In another video posted on Tuesday, Brown referenced the movie “Finding Nemo.”
The ordeal began on Saturday when family members of Sergio Brown and his mother, Myrtle Brown, reported that they couldn’t locate or contact either of them. A missing persons search was initiated, leading to the discovery of 73-year-old Myrtle Brown’s lifeless body in a creek near her residence, according to FOX 59.
Sheila Simmons, Myrtle Brown’s sister, recounted her last conversation with her on September 14th, with her birthday celebrated just days earlier on September 8th. Simmons received a phone call around 3 a.m. local time, alerting her that her sister and nephew were missing.
Simmons went on to say that she noticed things were amiss at Myrtle Brown’s Maywood home when she returned there, per FOX 59.
While Sergio Brown’s family members reached out in search of answers, the former Notre Dame football standout and Maywood native has not been heard from.
On Sunday, Sergio’s brother, Nick, made a public appeal for him to return home.
Sergio Brown, who entered the NFL in 2010 as an undrafted free agent and played for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills during his seven-season NFL career, last played in the league in 2016.
