The NBA has launched an investigation into Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter regarding potential irregularities involving prop bets on NBA games in which he participated.
The probe, initiated on Monday, focuses on Porter, a reserve player who signed a two-way contract with Toronto in December. Allegations suggest that Porter may have provided insider information to influence the outcomes of prop bets on NBA games.
Furthermore, it has come to light that Porter operated a private Discord server, offering both stock trading information and betting tips. Twitter user @RaptorMoments shared past posts from the public section of the server, where users expressed gratitude to a group member believed to be Porter for providing assistance with stock and betting advice.
Although these posts predate Porter’s NBA career, the Discord server also featured a private channel accessible only to users who paid a $49.99 entry fee.
The Discord server is linked to a service called The Financial Cloud, co-founded by Porter. While The Financial Cloud primarily focuses on facilitating financial trading and providing educational resources, gambling discussions, including references to NCAA Tournament parlays, were reportedly prevalent in the Discord server.
Neither the Raptors nor Porter have issued statements following the initiation of the investigation.
Porter, 24, has averaged 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists for Toronto this season, appearing in 26 games and making five starts. His older brother, Michael, is a prominent player for the Denver Nuggets, the reigning NBA champions.
