Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, made waves on her podcast by discussing her husband’s struggles in connecting with younger players on the Los Angeles Rams.
According to Kelly, the teammates refer to Matthew as “sir,” despite being on the same level.
She also mentioned the younger players’ habit of immediately turning to their phones after practice.
To help him remember their names and faces, Matthew had a book printed with everyone’s information.

These comments quickly went viral and reached Rams coach Sean McVay, who, at 37, is only two years older than Matthew.
However, McVay dismissed any concerns, interpreting Kelly’s remarks as a playful joke about Matthew’s age.
“I’m not concerned because I think if you know Kelly, I took that as more of a joke at the old man,” McVay said.
“And I’ll be honest, there’s a couple throws that he made during training camp where I wanted to say, ‘Yes sir,’ to him as well.”
He praised Matthew’s leadership skills and emphasized that he has done an exceptional job connecting with teammates of all ages.
McVay described Matthew as emotionally intelligent and genuinely good-natured, capable of establishing meaningful personal and football-related connections.
The Rams are gearing up to face their NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, in the first week of the season.
