“Saturday Night Live” has ventured into the realm of sports.
Deion Sanders and his Colorado football team suffered such a staggering defeat against Stanford on Friday night that “Saturday Night Live” couldn’t resist poking fun at it just a day later.
In a segment featuring actor Kenan Thompson portraying “Coach Prime,” Thompson sported a white CU hat and a Colorado hooded sweatshirt, complete with sunglasses, as he fielded questions from NBC’s “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost.

The skit hilariously parodied Sanders, capturing his signature confidence and the unexpected 46-43 double-overtime loss to Stanford, despite holding a commanding 29-0 lead in the first half. This loss brought Colorado’s record to 4-3 after an initial 3-0 start in Sanders’ inaugural year as head coach.
“We just keep winning, man,” Thompson said in the role of Sanders. “Every game, every minute. We winning at life.”
“Yeah, you’re also 4-3, so you have lost a few,” Jost told him.
“Colin, look at me, man,” the fictional Coach Prime said. “What about me makes you think that I care about what you think about me? You don’t understand that my team has it all, man. Coaching? Genius. Offense? Explosive. Defense? Trying. It’s a complete package, man.”
The segment also explored Deion Sanders’ departure from Jackson State, a historically Black university where he coached for three seasons before accepting the position at Colorado in December.
The fictitious Coach Prime humorously commented, “Coaching is a noble calling.”
A flashback also took us to that significant cultural moment in 1995 when the actual Sanders hosted SNL.
Colorado will enjoy a bye week next week and will then return to action on October 28th when they face off against UCLA.
Deion Sanders is undeniably entertaining, which is why it’s entirely logical for Saturday Night Live to satirize him.
