Is Saquon Barkley really willing to sit out?
The New York Giants and Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley were not able to reach an agreement before the Tuesday deadline.
Barkley, who is 26 years old, has also not signed the franchise tag placed on him by the team during the offseason.
As a result, he is expected to holdout during training camp.
During an appearance on the “The Money Matters” podcast on Youtube, Barkley discussed his options now that a deal has not been reached.
He mentioned that he could potentially refuse to play and use it as leverage against the Giants and his teammates, to show his worth and value to the team.
“My leverage is I could say, ‘f— you’ to the Giants, I could say, ‘f— you to my teammates,'” BarAnd be like, ‘You want me to show you my worth? You want me to show you how valuable I am to the team? I won’t show up. I won’t play a down.’ And that’s a play I could use.”
“Anybody [who] knows me, knows that’s not something I want to do,” Barkley said. “Is it something that’s crossed my mind? I never thought I would ever do that, but now I’m at a point where I’m like, ‘Jesus, I might have to take it to this level.’ Am I prepared to take it to this level? I don’t know. That’s something I have to sit down and talk to my family, talk to my team [of advisers] and strategize about this. Can’t just go off of emotions. I can try to get as much money as I can, but what really matters is winning. I know if I’m able to help bring a championship to New York, that’s going to go miles more ahead than this contract.”
Update: Saquon Barkley explains his leverage on the #Giants – 'F**k You'

However, Barkley emphasized that this is not something he wants to do, but feels he may have to consider it now.
He stated that he would need to discuss this with his family and advisors before making a decision.
While he acknowledges the importance of getting a fair contract, Barkley also recognizes that winning and bringing a championship to New York is more valuable in the long run.
The question now remains whether Barkley will play this season.
